Notes: This was the big one. Number one for EF points (and the only film to crack 500). Number one for engagements (68). Number one for full weeks (44) and Number one for first billings (68). Also number 5 for total slots (44). It looked as though it may only reach a top five EF ranking until Union theatres picked it up late in its run for encore screenings which continued after the 52 week cut-off date. Oddly, for such a well-screened film Jolson didn’t exactly walk a million miles for its audience’s smiles, with a 9,975m average travel per booking placing it only 227th on the chart.
